Frequently asked questions

the questions
people ask us.

Surfaces, ink, time, price. If yours is not here, it is welcome: bring it along with your wall.

01 The wall

what the ink lands on

Which surfaces can be printed on?

Almost all of them: painted or bare walls, plasterboard, wood, glass, tiles, sheet metal, acrylic… Two exceptions: mirrors, and car bodywork, whose clear coat keeps the ink from adhering (unless it is removed at a body shop, then reapplied after printing). The one limit on relief: no more than 2 cm of unevenness.

Does the wall need preparing first?

No, nothing at all: printing is done directly on the wall, white or coloured. The one precaution: a freshly painted wall needs to dry — 48 hours at least, a week ideally. And in a damp room, a bathroom for example, we dry the surface ourselves with alcohol just before printing.

How large can a mural be?

Up to 3.80 m high, with no limit on length. The machine needs a 40 cm margin all round the image — ceiling, adjacent walls, floor — and a metre of clearance in front of the wall. On a wall longer than its travel, it moves along and prints the next stretch: the join does not show.

02 The ink

what happens once it is printed

Does it last?

At least 10 years indoors, 5 years outdoors. Direct sunlight does not affect the print: the ink does not peel, it does not blister.

How do you look after a printed wall?

Simply: a flick of a feather duster is all it takes. On a printed table, in a restaurant for example, a damp cloth with very little cleaning product — never any solvent.

Does it smell, during and afterwards?

A faint smell of ink is noticeable during printing, for as long as the ink is drying; afterwards, nothing. No need to air the room: drying is instant under the UV LED lamps (the laser, for its part, is there to position the machine), and a public venue can stay open.

How long is the place out of use?

For as long as the printing takes, no longer: the machine prints up to 2 m² an hour — it depends on the file — in a single pass, and the ink dries instantly under its UV LED lamps. As soon as printing is finished, the wall is ready to be admired.

Can it ever be removed?

Yes. On a wall, simply paint over it. On glass or tiles, the print comes off with solvent.

03 The project

the steps, the timing, the price

How long does a project take?

Every project is scheduled case by case, depending on the wall and the calendar. Nothing is printed before you approve the design.

What if I do not like the visual?

The design is fine-tuned with you, down to the detail: nothing is printed without your approval. And if an image will not do justice to the place (or the wall to the image), we tell you, and we look for better.

How much does it cost?

Every project has its own quote. Four things make it vary: the size, the surface, the complexity of the visual and the distance. Get in touch with us — through the “Show us your wall” form, by email or by phone — and we will put it together as close as possible to what you have in mind.
